About FIAO

The Federation of Italian American Organizations of Brooklyn

Since 1977, the Federation of Italian American Organizations of Brooklyn (FIAO) has grown from a coalition of cultural groups into a dynamic nonprofit serving one of New York City's most diverse communities.

We are dedicated to preserving the diverse cultures of our community, strengthening families, and empowering Brooklyn through free legal services, social and mental health support, after-school programs, cultural events, wellness initiatives, and more.

FIAO impacts over 10,000 families annually through our wide range of free programs and services, from our wellness services and our reach is expanding each year.

At the heart of FIAO’s work is Il Centro, our state-of-the-art cultural hub in Southern Brooklyn. Designed to serve an ever-growing and evolving community, Il Centro features modern classrooms, professional offices, a rooftop pool, cutting-edge fitness facilities, a full-scale gymnasium, and versatile event space. It stands as both a vibrant gathering place and powerful symbol of unity, creating impactful opportunities for education, wellness, and cross-cultural exchange while fostering connection, growth, and community pride.

Il Centro Community Center offers state-of-the-art facilities and exceptional, community-driven programming designed to serve and uplift our diverse population. Our dynamic Fun Fit program, held every Thursday and Friday, delivers a comprehensive, energizing experience featuring invigorating fitness classes, hands-on enrichment activities, and nourishing, health-conscious meals designed to support overall well-being.

FIAO delivers a dynamic, transformative portfolio of free, high-impact youth programs across South Brooklyn through Il Centro Community Center and strategic partnerships with local schools. Powered by NYC DYCD, NYS OASAS, privately raised funds, and dedicated community partners, our initiatives provide comprehensive academic enrichment, innovative arts, cutting-edge technology, engaging recreation, and essential life skills development.
